His breadth of international experience has allowed him to work on a variety of projects of different scales, designing new communities and resorts in environmentally and politically sensitive locations. Seeing projects through from concept to implementation is very important to Tyson as he enjoys the iterative process of evolving a design to perfectly fit each community or client’s needs. His passion for landscape architecture and planning was inspired by his childhood in Provo, where he explored canyons, deserts, and plateaus, soaking in the beauty of the natural landscape.

Bull says he’s hopeful that the partnerships with the community that have emerged during the crisis will be lasting ones. The Brown Daily Herald, Inc. is a financially independent, nonprofit media organization with more than 250 students working across our journalism, business and web divisions. The BDW also hopes to increase sustainability in 2024 by promoting the reuse of typically discarded or scrap materials. “We are pushing for recycling for 3D printer filaments and using offcuts from wood projects for new projects,” Khurana said. The BDW currently collaborates with both on-campus clubs as well as schools in the greater Providence area. Projects left in the space will be dismantled and assimilated into the general resource base.

Upon completing a workshop, you will be given a sticker that signifies mastery of the given workshop and will allow you to work on that tool, in the space, during monitored hours. Founded in 2013, the space is staffed by students who often host workshops to help get new members acclimated and certified on all the tools. The space is open to everyone — not just engineers — so students pursuing any concentration are welcome to use the workshop alongside staff, faculty and local community members. These early experiments with design curriculum led to conversations and the eventual creation of the BDW in early 2013.

Ultimately, the BDW stands to exemplify how Brown students explore design, "not as a method, [but as] a mode of inquiry," says Ian Gonsher. The work and input of students continues to progress the BDW with their leadership, enthusiasm, and dedication to the missions of the space. You need a specific set of social and sales skills to really sell your ideas and concepts to the client. This year, you can take part in this in-person event and witness the breakthroughs in design, culture, music, and technology. It’s an opportunity to learn from the best, discover connections, and find career-boosting opportunities. As graphic designers, we are all too aware of how typefaces can make or break a design. For some of us, choosing the right fonts takes the most effort and care – even more than the concept. Because if you mess up the font, the whole design becomes skewed – sometimes literally.

These experiences instilled in him a desire to harmonize the built and natural systems to create spaces that can be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. A hybrid celebration, the event will offer digital as well as in-person and outdoor events. There are going to be guest speakers, panel discussions, behind-the-scene tours, outdoor installations, and much more. The week will also include the annual Design Awards, so if you want to be a part of one of the biggest design celebrations of the year, mark your calendar now.

Brown students are so amazing and if you give them the opportunity and if you give them the skills and the space and the resources to do things, they will do amazing things. I was in industry for a long time and it’s never [as] simple [as a single correct answer]. You’re always making trade-offs and making decisions—if we do this, and this, well… it’ll cost less and you won’t be done or vice versa and [you're] thinking about all the constraints.
